ICF PCC in Dubai: the requirements, the routes and a realistic timeline

What the ICF PCC credential asks for, the two routes to it from Dubai, and a realistic plan for 500 coaching hours, 450 of them paid. Figures checked at ICF.

It's a Tuesday afternoon in a DIFC meeting room, and a learning and development lead is reading a procurement spec for an executive coaching panel.

Most of it is what she expected. Experience with senior leaders. References. Availability across the GCC. Then one line stops her: "Coaches must hold an ICF credential at PCC level or above."

She has an ACC. She earned it two years ago, and she's coached well over a hundred hours since. She's good. But the line doesn't say good. It says PCC, and she realises she doesn't know exactly how far away that is.

That's the question this guide answers.

What does ICF require for PCC?

The ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) credential requires 125 hours of coach education, 500 hours of coaching experience with at least 25 clients (450 of them paid), 10 hours of mentor coaching, a performance evaluation, and a passing score on ICF's exam.

All figures here come from coachingfederation.org, checked on 3 October 2026. ICF changes its requirements from time to time, so check the source before you apply.

What does each PCC requirement mean?

125 hours of coach education. ICF's education requirements page puts the split at 62.5 hours synchronous, meaning live, and at least 100 hours aligned directly with the Core Competencies.

500 hours of coaching experience, with at least 25 clients. At least 450 hours must be paid, and at least 50 must fall within the 18 months before you apply. Paid includes direct payment, internal coaching, third-party arrangements, and barter such as peer-to-peer coaching or coaching in exchange for goods or services. Coaching your own direct reports doesn't count at all. As with ACC, group participants each count as a client, but group time isn't multiplied.

10 hours of mentor coaching. Over at least three months, with a PCC or MCC mentor, including at least three individual hours. Mentor coaching inside a Level 2 programme is completed within the programme. From 1 January 2027, new mentor coaching hours must be with a mentor coach who holds ICF's Mentor Coach Specialization (MCS).

A performance evaluation. Recorded coaching assessed against ICF's PCC Markers. On the Portfolio path you submit recordings yourself. On the Level 2 path it's completed within your programme. From 1 April 2027 the performance evaluation on the Portfolio path is replaced by mentor coaching with an MCS-holding mentor coach. On the Level 2 path nothing changes: ICF says Level 2 candidates won't need to do anything differently.

The exam. ICF has announced a new PCC-MCC Exam. The first test dates are 10 November 2026. Until 31 March 2027 candidates may sit either the current Credentialing Exam or the new one; from 1 April 2027 only the new exam is offered.

The fee. On the Level 2 path, the PCC page lists USD 375 for ICF members and USD 525 for non-members, with about four weeks' review. The Portfolio path costs USD 750 or 900 and takes about 18 weeks.

What are the two routes to PCC from Dubai?

Route one: Level 2 education, then PCC. You complete an ICF Level 2 programme, which covers the 125 hours, mentor coaching and the performance evaluation, and then you log your 500 hours. One useful detail: completing Level 2 doesn't oblige you to wait for 500 hours before applying for anything. If you meet the ACC requirements first, you can apply for ACC, and apply for PCC later on the same education.

Route two: Level 1 and ACC, then the Portfolio path. If you trained at Level 1 and hold ACC, you'll need more education to reach 125 hours, and you'll usually apply for PCC on the Portfolio path, which means submitting your own performance evaluation and paying the higher fee.

Neither route is better in itself. Route one costs more up front and less later. Route two lets you start coaching sooner and pay for the next step when you're ready. Our ACC requirements guide covers the first credential in detail if you're starting there.

At RSCI, RS Method Complete (AED 35,000) includes the ICF Level 2 education toward ACC or PCC. The ICF-accredited education inside our programmes is designed, delivered and certified by the International Institute of Coaching & Mentoring (IICM), an ICF-accredited organisation. The ACC and PCC credentials are awarded only by the ICF.

How long does PCC really take?

Longer than the education, almost always. The hours set the pace.

Here's the arithmetic most people skip. Fill in your own numbers.

Your paid coaching hours per week Weeks to 450 paid hours Roughly
4 113 over two years
8 57 about thirteen months, before holidays
12 38 about nine months
16 29 about seven months

Then add the 50 unpaid hours you're allowed, if you have them, and check two things: that you've coached at least 25 different people, and that at least 50 hours fall inside the last 18 months.

For most coaches in Dubai the real constraint isn't time. It's paid clients. So the useful question isn't "when can I finish the course?" It's "how do I build a practice that produces eight to twelve paid hours a week?" That's a business question as much as a coaching one.

A few things that help, all within ICF's rules:

Why does PCC ask so much more than ACC?

Because PCC is meant to show a different level of coaching, not just more of it.

The PCC Markers describe a coach who partners with the client rather than leads them, who works with what's emerging rather than a script, and who can stay present when the session goes somewhere difficult. Five hundred hours gives you the exposure. What turns exposure into that level of coaching is what happens inside you along the way.

That's the layer trainings that teach technique first tend to leave thin. Coaches accumulate the hours and plateau, because the moments that would deepen their practice, a client's silence, a client's tears, a client who reminds them of someone, are the moments their own material pulls them out of. We've written about this in coaching presence and what transformational coaching is.

If you're on the road to PCC and that plateau sounds familiar, Sara can help you see what's in the way, and tell you plainly whether we're the right fit. A free conversation is where every route into RSCI starts: book it here.

What should your PCC route give you beyond the hours?

Before you choose a programme or a mentor, look for three things.

  1. The ICF requirements handled cleanly. Level 2 education that covers the 125 hours, mentor coaching and the evaluation, with the accreditation stated accurately and no one implying they award the credential.
  2. Your own inner work, done first. So the 500 hours you log are hours that deepen you, not hours that repeat the same ceiling.
  3. A method for what's underneath. The PCC Markers describe what deep coaching looks like. A method gives you a way to do it when a session goes off the map.

That's how RSCI is built: the practitioner is transformed before the practitioner is trained.

What a practitioner can do with even one tool matters more than any hour count. Divya Kaur helped her mother out of two years of depression with a single tool, before she had even completed the full course. That's what she reported, and coaching isn't a treatment for depression; anyone living with it should keep working with their doctor. But it shows what the work can carry in the right hands.

Questions

What people also ask.

01 What are the ICF PCC requirements?

According to coachingfederation.org (checked 3 October 2026), 125 hours of coach education, 500 hours of coaching experience with at least 25 clients (450 of them paid, 50 within the last 18 months), 10 hours of mentor coaching, a performance evaluation and a passing exam score.

02 Do I need ACC before PCC?

No. You can apply for PCC directly once you meet its requirements. Many coaches get ACC first because 100 hours comes much sooner than 500, and a Level 2 education lets you apply for ACC first and PCC later without repeating education.

03 How long does PCC take from Dubai?

For most people the education takes months and the hours take longer. At eight paid coaching hours a week, 450 paid hours takes over a year. Your client pipeline sets the pace, not your course.

04 Can I count coaching my team at work?

Not your direct reports. ICF says coaching employees you supervise doesn't count toward client hours. Internal coaching of people outside your reporting line can count as paid.
